Paint Colours
I have done some more research, as I used to use the early British Standard Colour Charts in my work as a Buildings Conservation Architect. I recall the first BS Chart of early 20th century was I think BS48, with around 48 colours, but let’s not worry about that.
In 1931 the BSC 318c chart was introduced. It had 63 standard colours and most of the “listed VA” options came from this chart, however by the published date of the VA list in 1938-39, other colours obviously were becoming available as “Saxe Blue”, which was a common VA colour, was not on the 1931 chart.
The next British Standard Chart was BS 381c, which was published in 1944. So by reference to these two charts, you should be able to find a colour to suit your car.
If you Google BSC 318c, 1931 by William Marshall, you will find the colour chart and a very good written list, with colour hues for each colour. I hope this assists your search. Regards John Gray
