Lubrication
Although the brands and product names in general no longer exist, these do translate to SAE 90 for the gearbox and EP 110 - 140 for the rear axle.
E.g. Castrol Swanshot and Mobiloil CW are both SAE 90.
I use ST90 and EP140 respectively. I guess a worn gearbox may benefit from a heavier oil. Paul
Castrol technical recommend Classic EP140 for both gearbox and rear axle. Mike Lees
Castrol Classic EP90 and Castrol Classic Hipress EP140 for my 1938 VA tourer.
These, the Castrol people say, will not damage brass or bronze (in contrast to ‘modern’ oils which supposedly will destroy older gearboxes and axles). Jack Valentin
Straight 30 grade so it is not too slippery for the wet clutch [Ray Craig]
Re the gearbox and back axle do make sure that the oil you choose is GL4 and NOT GL5 chemistry as this is bad news for yellow metals such as brass and bronze found in older transmissions. Charlie Plain-Jones
