Carpets
SA Tickford carpets
The SA Tickford had very unique carpets, as you no doubt are aware. I believe you loaned me a sample of one of the pieces back in 2005 or thereabouts. There were 19 different pieces, not counting the door panels, and I made digital patterns with notes of each one, with the intent to send them to MGSA owners all over the world, , who then would take them to local digital poster sign makers, who, for a small fee of making a poster, would enlarge the file to the one inch grid onto paper, suitable for tracing and making a pattern.
I still have the 19 originals in a large box and could send the digital files if anyone needs them. Who knows, this may be a good SVW review article sometime in the future! Some folk doing the carpet followed Peter's 'modified' patterns, which, combined many of the pieces shown on the overall carpet layout, reducing the pieces from 19 to seven.
This was discovered by accident. I was going to get Peter's SA Tickford flecked carpet complete at about $1000, but decided to just have him make a set of patterns to confirm my pieces. Plus, I wanted the carpet leather binding to match the leather of the interior and Peter's was likely a different tan.
Glad I did as his set was adequate in covering the floor, but not to the original patterns. How so? Refer to the pattern layout and…one piece equated to #s 3,5,6, two equated to 2.4.7. a third piece was 1,8,9,10. four was 17, five was #18, the sixth piece was #13, 16, 19, and seventh was for #11, 12, under the seats. The door carpets were not numbered.
The color, as you point out Terry, is duo flecked, or two colors weaved/combined together. Mine was tan and biscuit for example, the top one on the selection of colors. The pic of colors is from the Spanish source. There were 5 color duo combos available for the SA Tickfords, Not sure for the VA tickfords from my research and owning VA2535 Tickford. Not sure on the SA Saloons & carpet. I believe only the Tickfords had the flecked carpet.
As mentioned, the carpet source I used I believe came from Peter and I had them make the carpet directly for me using that source in Spain, working with a carpet broker who then imported the carpet to Texas and finally to Dearborn. Took 2 years! Before sewing the seats, one must wait for the carpet, as they are a combo
